The best way to explain this place for me would be "7 hour old leftover pizza you forgot to refrigerate." Deep down you know its safe to eat, but science and your mind tells you its bad to enjoy. You cook it up and eat it anyways. Its still good as "expected". At the time they prepared my vegan dish (Sweet and sour sei), I could not help but notice the fact that they placed all of the serving spoons in one container of water, perhaps to keep the spoons clean. Now, I don't make a big deal out of issues like this, but I'm vegan so I don't eat meat or want any milk, butter etc. in my food. And it seemed like the same spoons being used to pick up the other items were being put in that same pot. Maybe they cleaned it before they placed it in the water? Maybe they did not. All I know is that I do not want to think about it. Taste of the food is good. Cabbage was sus though. The establishment needs Ramsey but the people here are not awful.
So I was having a taste for some Jamaican food and decided to give this place a try because I seen that not a lot of people have been and wanted to support a black business. This is not my usual place to order but this one time I tried will be my last. I ordered the large curry goat and a jerk chicken patty. The cabbage was hard and tasteless. The rice was dry and tasteless, the plantains were mushy, and I literally almost had no goat. The curry was obviously made with store bought curry powder as well, it was not authentic… I had to scavenge my plate for slithers of goat meat because it was all bones. It was as if they gave me last night’s leftovers from the bottom of the pot…Absolutely no meat. I am very disappointed. The jerk chicken patty had a burnt taste and was mushy on the inside like it was refried beans or something. $23 down the drain… I would not recommend this place.
Enjoy their authentic Jamaican dishes. It’s rare to find a restaurant that has ackee and salt fish. But they do on Sundays. Delicious. The owners are warm and friendly.
