J Bistro is a Chinese restaurant that has a separate menu for Korean-Chinese food. I love the open kitchen concept so that you can see the chefs behind the glass start cooking your food as soon as the order goes in. The jjajangmyeon, noodles in black bean sauce, was delicious and nostalgic, with the sauce having a good mix of veggies and meat. The noodles were cooked perfectly and they maintained a good chew and springiness. I liked the shrimp fried rice which soaked up all the wok and fire fragrance. We also tried the yusanseul, which traditionally is supposed to be a stirfry of napa cabbage strips, pork, bamboo shoots, and seafood. Instead, this one did not have any napa and was instead replaced by mushrooms and a LOT of mushrooms. While the meat and seafood were very fresh, the flavors were not what I was expecting. I will definitely return for the jjajangmyeon and looking forward to trying some of the other specialties on the menu.
While out this Saturday my friend was telling me about his good experience here so we came for lunch. The place is nicely appointed and though crowded not noisy and the service was quick and efficient. The staff was very helpful with our questions and explaining the items. The food was excellent! Our hot and sour soup had a lighter base that others but was flavorful. The spring roll very good. BUT the calamari was hands down the best I have ever had! Fried with a light tempura breading with no oily taste. The squid was cooked perfect not chewy or rubbery at all. The bell pepper onions green onion salt and pepper sauce was to die for. This is a must try item! Our lunch I had the Home made Noodle with chicken. (chicken was not on the menu but they subbed it for me). My friend had the Stir Fry Flay noodle with beef. We both loved the dishes and both had over half our plate home as the portion was a good size, and we did have an appetizer. We will definitely return. 8/22 Update week lat
Located in the Doravile Hmart shopping plaza, this is a huge traditional northern Chinese restaurant. Purely food based review: JiajiangMian (black bean noodle) - Really good and lots of noodles! If you like the more Korean style, you'll love this all the same. Twice Cooked Pork - A bit too saucey and salty for my tastes, the pork is crispy though. Salt & Pepper Squid - One of my favorites! It's really crispy and just the right amount of salty and savory! Would definitely recommend! Beef Scallion Rolls - Looked good presentation wise, however I wish it was less oily and more crispy.
