I was unfortunately a bit let down by my time at Hai Hai. There wasn’t necessarily anything “wrong” with the dishes, but the price to portion size was a bummer. The Hanoi sticky rice was a generous serving, but that bowl is dirt cheap to make. We also ordered the tumeric & dill fish, which was extremely average in taste, and what seemed to be 4oz of fish. I could’ve eaten three of these bowls easily. The fried shiitake and oyster mushrooms were very good, but again a tiny serving. Their nuoc cham was also very good and had well balanced flavor The drinks were nothing to write home about, and I think the house lemonade is way too sweet. I wouldn’t recommend it. The service was good, so it isn’t as big of a deal, but this is one of those establishments with a “no tipping” model… with a 20% surcharge automatically built in. Inventive, delicious cocktails. Really stellar food (it was hard to choose because everything sounded amazing!) Attentive, happy staff. Very, very cool decor, with a lovely but not-too-loud soundtrack. It was everything I hoped it would be, I will be coming back.
