Daruma South Sarasota - Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge

We went for my son’s birthday. Everyone had a fun time, and even though we were seated by a larger family we didn’t know, that didn’t detract. Our chef was fun and energetic. He spent a lot of his time bantering with the attractive young ladies on the other side (completely innocently - don’t take it the wrong way) and that was fine. Don’t come for a quiet private meal. It’s noisy and fun and full of laughter and conversation. The only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 was because the steak we ordered medium rare was clearly medium at best. It was anguishing to watch it cook on beyond the best point. My son’s fish (grouper) wasn’t all that good either. I was *really* looking forward to that steak. The waitstaff was fast and on point.

This place should be a definite dinner night out. The atmosphere is great and staff is al w as so pleasant. But most importantly the food if fresh and delicious. You cannot go wrong with anything you order. We were there celebrating a birthday and the extra special touches they added was very nice. They cameout with a small chocolate volcano cake and ice-cream singing happy birthday. Then they got our group together for a photo that they printed out and put in a paper frame and gave a pair of chopsticks as a gift. Great gester. Loved the photo.

Went to diner today 9/4. It took 30 + minutes waiting for drinks to be served with two little kids on the table. We complaint to the hostess, who said manager was going to come to our table and never came, careless. Manager never show up on our table. We placed sushi as appetizer and arrived after the main meal was served. Waitress came to the table asking us to reorder the sushi, said “wanted to confirm” it was never ordered, arrived after meal. Service was terrible. 20% Tip was already included on the bill. Will never go back, careless management and service. There are better places in town.
