Ukrainian East Village Restaurant

The food is delicious here, and the ambiance is pretty great - it gives you the feel that you're in Babushka's basement, about to be served a really hearty meal rich in potatoes and sausages. I loved how the event room smelled like decades of pierogies and good times. Something about this place just warmed my heart. Try the sampler plates for a little bit of everything wonderful. I also highly recommend the blitzes!

They give you bread and butter to start your meal, which is always an excellent start. I ordered the potato pirogies, the veal dumplings, lentil soup, and a Greek salad. My boyfriend and I shared, and it was the perfect amount of food. The restaurant is basically in a recc center, and feels like a little spot in your home town. It’s got wood panel walls, homey decor, and was not crowded or loud. Service was prompt but not hovering, and I felt like I was eating at my non existent eastern european grammas. 5/5

My friend who lives in NYC has taken every one of her friends here, including visitors from other cities. I love the oddball setting of this place, down to the somewhat scary and weird basement bathrooms. This is my second time eating here. The prices have doubled in recent years, but hasn't everything, especially in NYC!? We started with rather small cups of mushroom barley soup that were quite different than Jewish varieties. Some tables were served dark pumpernickel bread, but we only received sourdough. The waitress was the only one serving that night and quite overworked. We did have a long wait until our food arrived. The blueberry blintzes definitely doubled in price since my last time there. They were so incredibly good, I didn't mind - the best I've ever had! I was a little surprised that they automatically added 21% onto the bill after tax for the tip. The waitress was personable and working so hard, she definitely earned it - but $46 dollars for two tiny cups of soup, blintz
