Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar

Ya know, the thing about these hip, well designed popular places is that the food always looks great on a plate, the building is nice, but you get hit with a bait and switch with food that's not as good as it looks. The chicken and waffles was underwhelming.The shrimp and grits had a lot of great flavors and that grilled lemon was such a nice touch, but the texture of the grits was schizophrenic, being somehow chunky, watery, gluey, and close to the right consistency on occasion. Service was pretty good overall. The establishment looks nice and it's a happening place. The drinks are way too small for the price. Not a bad Bloody Mary, but way to small for that price.

The food is very bland. Everthing from the appetizers to dinners came out cold. The food did not seem freshly made. Nothing Southern about it. The collard greens and chicken were the only passable items.The service was average at best. We had to ask a few times for simple things and many simple request were forgotten. And it was not a busy night. Once reminding servers it took a while to get what we requested. I was disappointed, because I have seen nice reviews and was looking forward to trying.

Cute brunch atmosphere with decent southern cooking. The biscuits are by far the best part of the meal here. Everything else we had was pretty average, including the chicken & waffles.
