They good was delicious and great atmosphere. Some guests at the bar were really intoxicated and loud which was annoying but it is a lounge. I love the nostalgia with wood paneling. Great place to chill.
Passing through Des Moines looking for a bite to eat with a diverse menu and the High Life Lounge was the perfect spot. We had a hard time deciding on what we wanted but we left happy with our choices. We started with the bacon wrapped smokies, and I suggest mixing the syrup and ranch, I know it sounds weird but trust me. My friend got the Pot Roast Philly Sandwich, it was a bit dry, but we added some brown gravy to it and it made it way better. What stole the show was the Brosted Chicken. I had been craving fried chicken for awhile and this is exactly what I was looking for. Super crispy and flavorful, the mashed potatoes & Gravy were the perfect side with it, while the Mac & Cheese needed some more flavor. If I pass through Des Moines again I definitely would come back for the chicken alone!
As the name would suggest...this place is a tavern! And it's fantastic! Old school decor, look at the beers on tap...outstanding! Friendly staff and just blocks away from Principal Park
