New Zealand Cafe

Had heard great things about this restaurant since we moved to Charlotte, and finally made it there to check it out. Having had amazing sushi at local places like O-Ku, Prime Fish, Baku, and Yama, I have to say this little unsuspecting strip-mall restaurant rivals those fancier joints. We ordered both cooked food entrees and sushi. The cooked food portions were incredible sizes for the price. Flavors were all on point. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The seared salmon belly practically melted in your mouth. The uni has great flavor, and the fact that they have masago/quail egg as an orderable menu item makes me super happy. The staff is very attentive, prompt, and polite. We are looking forward to our next visit!

My wife and I treat ourselves to a large sushi dinner here once a month, sometime twice, sometimes three times if one of us has a really really bad day. Honestly this sushi is amazing for the price, one of the best. We ate in here before covid, it was a small place, I'm a large person and I felt in the way wherever I sat. The play we found works best is to order and pick it up, we have the good soy sauce at home anyways. Our large order, listed below takes them usally 45-55 minutes to complete on the busiest day, get a seperate box for each person's order to mitigate spousal theft. The best sushi in Charlotte, or atleast for this price point. Just a really great staff and kitchen. Always very clean. I was eating outside from another restaurant with my family when one of New Zealand Cafe employees came outside and started to chat with us. Long story short I went in and ordered some bang bang shrimp which was pretty good. I like the vibe inside of the restaurant it seem pretty chill. I haven’t eaten enough from here to give a full review but so far I’ve like it.
