If you find yourself at Mezcal Restaurant in San Jose, California, be sure to order their mouthwatering Molcajete, a traditional Mexican dish filled with juicy grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, and cactus, all smothered in a rich and flavorful red salsa. Another must-try is their enchiladas de mole, made with tender shredded chicken and topped with their secret mole sauce, blending hints of chocolate, spices, and chili for a bold and sensational taste. Vegetarians will love their Rajas con Crema, a plate of fire-roasted poblano peppers sautéed with onions and corn, then bathed in a creamy sauce that bursts with sweetness and mild heat. Don't forget to indulge in their Tres Leches cake, a moist sponge cake soaked in a trio of milks and finished with a luscious whipped cream topping, offering a deliciously sweet and decadent ending to your meal.

Had the chupalines and the octopus salad. The bartender, while friendly and apologetic, seemed to be out of his element and the food came before my beer. Overall, a good experience with friendly staff. The chupalines were crunchy and full of lime and chili flavor. The presentation was pretty sad looking though, and I had a couple of chewy grasshoppers, rather than crispy, which is a little off-putting. The octopus in the octopus salad was cooked perfectly, but the chorizo was too plentiful, which made the salad eat a little greasy and oily. I would definitely give this place another chance, but if I had similar experience, I would not return.
Food was ridiculously expensive! I ordered the mole, it was only a tiny thigh with a tiny scoop of rice for $22. The tortillas that came with the food were so hard… probably yesterdays tortillas. My husband ordered the tacos and they were flavorless, did not taste like asada meet, it tasted more like ground beef hamburger meat. We did grab a bunch of lollipops on the way out and they were better than the food. Overall, we will never go back again.
Stopped by for a cocktail and the bartender was very friendly. The drinks were great and feeling adventurous I tried the fried grasshoppers. They weren't bad at all. Would like to return and try more of the menu
