Happy Gyro

I love this place. If you'd have told me right before the pandemic that one of the best haute cuisine restaurants in DC (Komi) would soon change its menu to pizza, gyros, and fries and I'd love it, I'd have said you were crazy. But here we are. They also sell their own ice cream, and it's delicious. Expensive, but so good nothing else compares. Happy Gyro's menu is short and changes frequently, based on what's available. The veggie gyro is fantastic but they haven't had that for a couple months. The spicy veggie tacos come in those old fashioned hard tortillas, and are delicious - but pretty spicy. Grandma and grandpa pizza squares taste as good as you'll find in NYC. They still offer the extensive wine and drink selection as they did when they were Komi. The chef and staff are all from Komi too, and provide very good service to match fine dining or street food. Now that the pandemic is supposedly over, I don't know if they'll go back to fancy dining. Amazing dinner experience that offered a lot of familiar flavors, but with an elevated twist. My husband and I split the wine pairing and got to enjoy a nice variety. Although the dishes came out slow, we had a great time and came home with leftovers.

The food was delicious and unique. We went during Happy Gyro and loved all the vegetarian food!
