Hackney's on Lake

Way over priced for the tiny but tasty portions. $14 for only 2 Corned Beef egg rolls ad the "mini" burgers are about the size of a quarter.... I doubt I will go back any time soon.

I'm just going to talk about Hackney's onion rings because, while there are lots of reasons to eat at Hackney's, you really don't need any other reasons. The onion rings are simply spectacular. You'll enjoy eating them, you'll enjoy talking about them the next day just as much -- IF you can find anyone who doesn't already know about them. Hackney's Original French Fried Onions, as the menu calls them, come in big bricks. This picture is half a brick. It's under ten bucks. For another two bucks you can get the full brick. Yes, it's a lot of onion rings but they're also really GOOD onion rings, crispy and surprisingly light. They also have Reuben sandwiches and the famous Hackneyburger, and probably a lot of other things. Get one of them, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, but we both know you're there to get those rings.

The black bean vegan burger isn’t bad but it’s also not anything to write home about; underwhelmed. It’s basically the only vegan choice as well (unless you get salad). Would be great for Hackney’s to be more diet inclusive instead of stuck in the past with an antiquated menu. The beer was good, family style fries are good. The onion loaf is always good. Service could’ve been better.
