When I saw all the rave reviews about this place and then actually went to eat there and had probably the worst brisket I've ever eaten in my life, I was curious, how could this dichotomy exist? Out of curiosity I was looking to see if my review was still up. It isn't. Shocking. Well, not that shocking. Apparently they pay Google to take down bad reviews, at least I'm assuming that's the case. So I will reiterate my experience. The brisket was so dry that even though it was smothered in sauce I could barely choke it down. The sides were lackluster at best. I actually lived in West Texas so I know what Texas barbecue is, and this is definitely not that. I know that some people actually like this place but there's no accounting for taste... or the lack of thereof. Cheers.
Real deal Texas BBQ. ???? collard greens. Best brisket in the county, maybe even west coast....falls apart and perfect bbq sauce. Coop himself makes sure everyone is happy and succeeds their expectations when he is available. Girls behind the county are super sweet. Tippers go to heaven!
Nothing was fresh. Everything tasted old and microwaved. The mac and cheese was soggy and hardly had any cheese. It wasn't creamy and it was bland. The spare ribs, jerk chicken and Texas sausage all tasted the same bland and warm cold. Nothing was seasoned. The cornbread was bone dry and had no flavor. I did enjoy the friendly staff. They were welcoming. The baked beans were good. The peach cobbler was good too. Phil's BBQ is way better, but the food here tastes like most of the BBQ in San Diego, flavorless without BBQ sauce, lukewarm and not cooked fresh.
