This is my favorite fish and chips spot in San Diego now. It's a small mom & pop shop. The texture of the fish is always great, fluffy and crispy. Would recommend the fish, oysters, and the shrimp.
Our meals were great. We had individual combos. I had fish and shrimp. My wife had fish and clam strips. The fish was tasty, light and flaky. The portions were very generous as we had plenty left to take home and enjoy later. The shrimp were very good also as were the tatar sauce and cocktail sauce. We both had fries which were very good although we could have substituted zucchini, onion rings, hush puppies or cole slaw. This was our first visit based on our neighbor’s strong recommendation. Chef John’s met and exceeded our expectations. We definitely plan to come back.
Chef John’s has my favorite fish and chips in San Diego. The tartar sauce is good but I prefer the malt vinegar. Haven’t found comparable yet…I stop in still almost monthly.
