The Brig Restaurant

I spend two weeks in Dana Point every year to go fishing and whale watching and so forth. Several years ago I ate a steak sandwich at the brig restaurant. It was not good. Today I gave the brig a second chance. I ordered the fish and chips. They were the best fish and chips I've had ever in my life. A few nights ago I ordered fish and chips at Jimmy's across Dana Point Harbor Drive. I could have lubed my truck with the amount of oil that was dripping out of the poorly cooked and amateuriously breaded fish. The brig is by far the better choice for this dish. The coleslaw at the brig is also many magnitudes better than Jimmy's. By the way El Torito the other night was disappointing. The appetizers were decent but the fish tacos were a joke. I caught my bluefin tuna and thresher shark of the strip so I am happy no matter the food. I will say that the people in Dana Point at the Marina Inn are exceptional. We went for breakfast and it is great! The menu is broad, the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the nap needed afterwards is serious - especially if you’re in vacation mode like we were. Everything could use an update in and around this place in my opinion. It seems clean but it doesn’t feel fresh if that makes sense. The prices are about what you’d expect in CA. The service and food are great.

Listen to the comments It has mixed reviews and the ones saying it wasn't the greatest is for a reason. It is over priced, service was ok, ordered biscuits and gravy and the there was barely any gravy over the dry biscuits. Eggs Benedict was good, the ham steak was thick. Dino nuggets for kids which was a hit, but my 6 year old waited the whole time for a waffle that never came because the waffle maker broke...this is where I have the problem. She kept saying it's on its way and then after the third time she said it was broken.... We as a table finished eating and my son was still sitting and waiting. He ordered a new meal after she cleared our plates. Refilled coffee once after we asked and it wasn't even busy for her not be attentive. Overall it was a nice patio. We visit Dana Point often and this was our first and last time dining at this place. There are better option throughout the point to dine at but take a chance if you must, you might have a better experience. Kid-friendliness
