Tl;dr: If you’re looking for a sign to go here or you’re unsure about going to a newer place, this is it. This is the best Taqueria place and I never wanna stop going here. Me and the fiancé ordered the birria tacos, fried cheesecake, and a small horchata, they’re all just amazing. I love birria tacos and they top any I’ve tried. On top of that, the staff are kind and fast, we got our food ready in less than 10 minutes. The vibes inside were immaculate with music. Just go here from now on. Edit: We dined in this time, it was my anniversary with my fiancé and food got out fast and we loved it even more. Don’t wait or you’ll regret.
I was hoping El Chido would be authentic Mexican street/lunch food like the taco places all over Southern California. It is not. It’s expensive and they’re skimpy with the ingredients. My Special Burrito was mostly layers of tortilla and cabbage with a little al pastor sprinkled in. Most places like this will throw a handful of chips in with your order. That’s $6 at El Chido. We also ordered the Burris tacos they’re known for. They were good but $16 for 3 tacos is very steep.
I've been to Mexico 3 times, when I lived in California. This place is more like genuine Mexican than anywhere north of San Diego, that I had in California. I've now been to El Chido twice - and I will be going back many times. Several previous reviews claim this is the best in Richmond - and I'm not going to argue with that claim. My first visit, I got the Chicken and Chorizo special, as takeaway. It was 2 huge slices of chicken, marinated in wonderful Mexican spices, covering a mountain of chorizo and veggies, crammed into a standard foam plastic carryout dish. I am a hearty eater - and the chicken, chorizo, rice, and beans was enough for 2 good meals. My second visit, I got Caldo do Camaron (Mexican shrimp soup), and the house special burrito dish. This time, I ate in the restaurant. The camaron was 8 (I think, didn't count them) fresh shrimp, in a quart bowl of broth, veggies, etc. The shrimp are huge and whole - and obviously had been nowhere near a freezer. As good as any
