We have been to Taco City several times now and it does not disappoint. I love the taco city salad with shrimp and their guacamole. My husband likes their tacos and has tried all the meat ones. The carne asada and al pastor are favorites. Their salsa is a smokier tomato based one and it's really good. I also think their margaritas are very fresh and delicious. I have seen some complaints on pricing, but I think they offer a good value and their happy hour is very reasonable especially factoring in inflation and DC prices in general. Service also great. I hope this neighborhood spot is able to stay around.
If you're in the Brookland neighborhood and want some quick grab and go tacos, then this spot is worth trying. Feels more authentic than what you'll get at some of the other nearby fast food restaurants, which I really did appreciate. Service is fast and friendly. You'll get tortilla chips and salsa to start. The empanadas were flavorful enough on the inside, the outside will require you to dip it in the salsas provided. It's a bit bland on the exterior of the empanadas. The tacos were the highlight of the meal. They were very good overall (I really liked the tinga de pollo) . The mahi mahi was ok. I think the thing they really need to work on is their pairings and seasoning. Hopefully it will improve. They just need to invest in this area of their business a bit more by surveying the community or these reviews to determine what this neighborhood and their potential customers will respond well to.
Went for a quick take out as we didn't have anything in the house for dinner. We asked if we could order a special taco with No onion and No cilantro. They said yes but when we got home there was cilantro sprinkle on top and onion in the meat. I understand that sometimes the mix is done in advance, but they could've just said it was not possible to make and we would've gone somewhere else. We were the only one in the place, so wasn't even a mistake done in a busy time. What a disappointment.
