Reviews for Steamer's Grillhouse

The service was excellent. Those who ordered the clams, mussels, or fish fillet enjoyed them and would order them again. Another and I ordered the burger. The scrawny hamburger patty made a Costco patty look desirable. Avoid this option, as there are better burgers for half the cost. The burger was the only beef entry on the menu. This is a disappointing single beef menu option for a restaurant that promotes itself as a Grill House. My wife said the Prawn BLT was good, but she would not order it again. Another said the same for the seafood linguini. The outside dining ambiance is pleasant but sterile as it is surrounded by the newer concrete high-density shopping areas in Los Gatos.
After more than 40 years of consistently great food and service, this family owned and operated restaurant has earned its rightful place as a Los Gatos institution. This review is just for lunch, but we’ve also enjoyed happy hour and dinner at Steamer’s. Their unique Shrimp BLT is one of my favorite items on the lunch menu. It’s made with oven roasted jumbo prawns and applewood smoked bacon and it’s served on toasted focaccia bread with a generous helping of fries. Other menu items that we’ve enjoyed over the years include the roasted mussels, fresh grilled halibut, tortilla soup, clam chowder, fish tacos and prawn tacos. My wife wishes that they’d bring back their scallops and risotto dish. I’m hoping for a return of their fresh Alaskan (instead of Pacific) halibut. The dining room decor is looking a bit dated, and some of the upholstery has even gotten a little threadbare, but that’s all understandable given how restaurants are just struggling to survive these days. I rate this restaurant at 4 & 1/2 stars. We eat here about once a year and are always pleased with quality of the food, the service and the value. We would probably eat here more often, but the drive from Santa Cruz is bit much. Special shout out to ur attentive waiter, Armando V. Excellent service!
