It’s a good dish of chicken rice that you can live by but it’s not “Hainan” chicken rice standard. The meat is not soft enough and lack of collagen. We put our names on the list and the server walked back and forth noticing us but won’t bother to “ hi I’ll be right with you” so it’s kinda awkward didn’t know where we should stand, no instruction on what’s next after writing your name down. The restaurant’s setting is confusing. We ordered half chicken and 2 bowls of flavored rice, the service went “ you meant 2 orders?” “ well yes 2 orders I guess..i don’t know how big is an order” She went again “ ok 2 orders” Perhaps she could explain: the rice will be on a plate so it’s called as order blah blah blah. It made the whole conversation go like an argument between “ order” or “ bowl” - which was very unnecessary. We just want to eat Hainan chicken rice. My husband tried to speak in Chinese so maybe it’s easier to communicate but she went on with English then later she spoke Chinese to o
The Hainan Chicken (chicken and rice) seems to be very popular here There were many people ordering it for Takeout and Eat In. However, it did not live up to expectations. We found it to dry and the chicken rice lacked flavor. It was far of from the Hainan chicken rice found at Hawker Centers in Singapore. Our quest for finding authentic chicken rice around LA continues. Ipoh is the winner for now when it comes to offering the best Hainan Chicken in LA; in our opinion. The curry with fish and the Chrysanthemum tea were ok. The tea was a but to sweet but otherwise quite good.
Only thing worth ordering is the ginger sauce. Quite honestly a big let down. I've had the chicken in Singapore, and HK, so I know what is should be like. The rice was dry, chicken had no essence. Sauces were good. Took forever to get extra. Not enough but for three bites worth. Still don't get why people wait here. It didn't bother me but you should exercise some discretion, a food server petted a customer's dog quite a bit, then proceeded to serve the table next to us their food. Pizza tasted liked boxed frozen pizza; no I apologize, frozen pizza deserve more respect than the one that was served. Pork curry was really tough and no flavor. Two stars is being generous but the cashier was very pleasant and the ginger sauce was the star.
