Renga-Tei

Given that it's been around for over 30 years when there were hardly ANY sushi restaurants in all of Chicagoland, I would have to say this is arguably the best one in town. It simply doesn't get the recognition because of it's quiet location in Lincolnwood. But it's superb. The rolls, nigiri and sashimi pieces have what I like to call 'weight.' There is a heaviness, almost dense texture which feels as if you're eating something that was caught and cut the very same day. Extremely fresh and prepared exquisitely, one would assume they were in Japan having their meal. The restaurant is owned by Hiso Yemada who is also the chef. There is a sense of culturual fusion with his style--it's almost ingrained in the food. This plave is a must for those who crave sushi.

Pretty good but not outstanding. The tuna was the best fish and the yellowtail was lacking. I loved seeing they had omakase, always so fun! But the omakase was pricy for what we got. If you don’t like wasabi, be forewarned that the chef was heavy handed and put wasabi in all the pieces (including tuna roll).

Very fresh. Great spinach salad with calamari. Out of King Crab for my sushi. Not a lot of soft drink options. Service was good. I would go back.
