Portillo's Hot Dogs

The vegan-friendly garden dogs are awesome and a much appreciated vegan-option. The are my made with my favorite, Field Roast Statium dogs. Downside: Fries are fried in oil containing beef tallow (ew, why?) so they are not vegan-friendly. Vegetarian options: Vegan/vegetarian friendly garden dog

Found myself out in Merrillville for work, and was looking for a new bite for lunch when I remembered that recently Portillo’s had added a new vegan option to their menu. Plenty of restaurants offer plant-based burgers, but few places boast a plant-based hot dog. Portillo’s new Garden Dog is 100% plant-based, while still keeping that smoky and seasoned flavor that makes a hot dog appealing. They certainly do not skimp on toppings either! With mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, peppers and a giant slice of pickle, this hot dog quickly becomes quite the main course. Of course, I wanted the full experience, so I also ordered myself a coke and some delicious, crisp fries. When I walked out the door I was both full and satisfied. The fries were so both fluffy and crisp simultaneously, and the dog itself was cooked to perfection. It’s a nice change of pace to enjoy myself a fully decked-out hot dog, and this certainly will not be the last time I swing in for lunch!
