Classic Chicago-style pizza with caramelized crust. Always crowded, book early. Friendly service. Small place. Big delicious taste.
Only had one night in the area to try true Chicago Deep Dish, and was recommended this place (they said Lou Malnatti's wasn't that great anymore?). Honestly, we were kinda dissappointed. We wanted those thick cheese and sauce layers, but this was more like a deep dish that we can also get where we live. The crust had a firm bottom layer, not just a crisp, was hard to get through even with fork and knife. Their trademark burnt cheese around the edge was expected, but it just fell off the slices when we tried to eat it. Even though it was a weeknight, the place was full, and our server had that attitude like he'd rather us be more familiar with how it works. We didn't know that you have to be ready with your pizza order as soon as you sit down, no time to think about it. Overall, the place has that great neighborhood vibe, parking on the street is cool, and the prices weren't stupid expensive. But the next time I'm in Chicago, I'm finding a more old school deep dish.
My son told me about this restaurant a few weeks ago. Coincidentally, I was in Chicago so I had to try it. My colleague made a reservation and it's definitely a great place to eat. The side salad is huge so I would recommend splitting it. The pizza is very good and I maxed out after 2 slices. I would recommend it for sure.
