I have been eating at Mel’s for many years, both in Los Angeles, and when I lived in San Francisco. In terms of the classic American diner, it’s always a solid option. Personally I don’t prefer it for breakfast, but it’s a great option for lunch or dinner. Usually I get the tuna melt, but I have tried many other dishes here as well. This location can get quite busy and parking can be tougher than other parts of town, although it’s a really fun environment to have a meal. There were two very well-known celebrities in the restaurant at the same time as us for a early Sunday dinner. Every booth was taken and our meal was very good. This time I got my traditional tuna melt with avocado, as well as a butterscotch milkshake, and really devoured both of them. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of the traditional American diner, or is looking for a quick casual meal. It is a bit more expensive another diners, but it’s also a lot better than other places like Norms.
If you like oldies music and diner fair, this is the most reasonably priced option on Sunset that I've found so far. My French dip was tasty if a little small. The fries were hot and crispy and the ranch was top five I've had in LA. Plenty of parking was available, which is always a bonus. Come enjoy the kitsch. … More
