Lemonade Restaurant

I tried Lemodade in Manhattan Beach over the weekend. I have no idea why I never tried this place before. Yes, I was familiar with the brand. I think I never went in because I thought the place was just some kind of take-out mecca for millennials looking to Instagram everything they eat. As an ex-line chef for the Four Seasons, special events catering chef for Patina and pastry guy for Pacific Islands Club... I was completely wrong. Lemonade provided some of the best food that I have had in years. When I say good I mean that the food was fresh, bright, seasoned well, acid and oil levels were perfect (on applicable dishes) and the flavors were paired well beyond what more formal sit down restaurants are trying to pull off. Delicious and nutritious. Great place to eat after some fun on the beach. We tried a bowl, some drinks and dessert. Our favorites were the mango chicken bowl, lavender elderflower lemonade and blood orange hibiscus lemonade.

To put it simply, from the ordering station to the register, I've received several micro-aggressions from our server that rubbed me the wrong way. My husband and I ordered protein plates with marketplace sides, and I accidentally mispronounced the pasta name, Gemelli. The server quickly corrected me with a condescending tone. My husband orders his food and proceeds toward the register. I observed how the server's tone and body language was towards him. It was definitely warmer than how she approached me. Even when ordering a drink, the server aimed her attention toward him and minimized any interaction with me. My husband requested a lemonade sample and it was handed to him. When I requested a lemonade sample, the server placed the sample on the counter on my husband's side. Due to the limited time that we had to eat and return home, I just asked my husband to pay for the meal and make a complaint later. For context, my husband is a white male and I identify as Black.
