La Penca Mexican Restaurant

Burrito has a slimy texture, the steak was like rubber and there was ZERO salsa in a $50 order. Chicken is tough as hello also. Terrible terrible food. No idea how they get good reviews. NO FLAVOR and disgusting proteins. Worst meal I've had all year. I wonder if they give free appetizer or something for the reviews?

If your idea of a Mexican restaurant is brightly painted furniture, pinatas hanging from the ceiling and velvet paintings on the wall, La Penca is not for you. If however you are looking for some of the best authentic Mexican food you will ever taste this place is definitely for you. The location is rather off the beaten path and the exterior appearance is nondescript and the interior is just a ordinary space with tables and chairs, but the service was excellent and the food outstanding. I had the Pollo Supreme and was surprised at the number of shrimp that was included along with the chicken. I don't expect to be back in Madison anytime soon but if I were I would definitely eat here again.
