Reviews for Jefe's Mexican Cocina Y Cantina

Wife is allergic to capsaicin (the spice in peppers like jalapeno and cayenne). Before we even got to truly order we found out that just about everything has some kind of pepper in it. I understand it's a Mexican restaurant and there is spice in a lot of Mexican food. But there is also a lot of Mexican food that does not have peppers in it. We couldn't even order a ground beef chimichanga because they put jalapenos in all of their ground beef and refried beans. So we just left and will never be coming back. Dietary restrictions: They're not very conscious about people with allergies
I ordered the 3 Tamale Dinner. We walked into a cozy little, quaint corridor, and then corralled into a semi-clean room, with probably 30 people. The staff seemed really great, professional, pleasant, alert, attentive, and courteous. Then the other shoe seems to drop when you’re served the food. To say the flavor of the food is “underwhelming”, would be a complete understatement. The rice, while looked delicious, and flavorful was the complete opposite; rather, bland, flavorless, the consistency of eating a Lego. Then, the fork is introduced into the beans that looked like the way you’d dream of them to look. You bring your fork to your mouth to only find that while you can feel something on your tongue, you won’t be able to taste anything in your mouth. Unfortunately, the sides are something to be desired. No one in the kitchen has tasted that rice, or the beans, they’re much, much too bland. However, one item will save the day: the three tamales warm, tender, cheesy, perfectly cooked
We've been going here for awhile and it was always a 5, but something has changed. The food is not up to par like it use to be, service has taken a nosedive and it's just not the same period. Also, last couple of times we ordered queso, it's just really thin, little thicker than cream. Charro beans are never consistent. They are either so hot, can't hardly eat them or needing a little seasoning. Too bad bc that was our go to place but it's been like this last 3 times we were in. Now we have to find somewhere else.
