Hortencias OC Mexican grill

Our first time in and this place was great! Very authentic, flavorful, and piping hot. I could eat here every day. Try the chili rellenos! They are crispy, not soggy. Excellent beans and rice.

UPDATE: I tried again during a dinner service and I am happy to say it was a much better experience. The food was good. Nice quality and helpful staff. The star of the meal was the Carne Asada plate. The meat was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. We all enjoyed our meals and will be heading back soon. I was very excited to try this place. I have been looking for a small Mexican restaurant that my family and friends can default to when we want something close. I was underwhelmed by the food and service, so this place is not it. The servers were pleasant but not extremely helpful or attentive. Add to that the order was wrong and not a great start. The food was a 7 out of ten not bad but not enticing enough to go out of our way to get it. I did stop during lunch so maybe they were not putting their best foot forward so I will try again. I do want to find a good place that we can grab a nice meal and not feel like I'm in a fast food place. This has potential, hopefully my next visit is

This is a hole in the wall spot with pretty good food. I live in Palos Verdes and I have no problem driving for good food. I wouldn't drive here if I was home and wanted Mexican food, but if I was in the area, I'd eat here.
