Haru

Haru specializes in ramen and they do it well. I'm the kind of person who likes variety and trying new things... Haru is the only restaurant where I've ordered the exact same thing 5 times in a row. Why mess with perfection? If you can handle spice, GET THEIR BLACK GARLIC RAMEN. It's incredibly flavorful, filled with aroma oil and creamy tonkotsu broth. Service has always been polite to us. They have a row of fridges filled with fun asian popsicles/mochi icecream, and drinks from brands like Ito En. BEST TAKOYAKI IN TOWN! I REPEAT, BEST TAKOYAKI IN TOWN! It's crispy yet soft yet chewy, with all of the correct condiments. Something else cool: they're one of those places with an open kitchen. You can easily see the cooks grilling your yakitori, and pulling baskets of piping hot noodles from the water. Oh. And it generally gets to your table fast. Cute place! Great food and a little shop as well! Service was friendly and quite fast! We had miso soup, it was good, but with the sesame chili oil, it was awesome! The Gyudon (thin sliced ribeye) was super tender and...just...yummy! The unagi ( fresh water eel) was fantastic. If you like sweet, I'd recommend this over the beef... actually just get both. The pickled diacon was a crunchy pallet cleanser when chopsticks are reaching all over the table to try everything! The pickled cucumbers were sliced into discs. The Bacon Scallops came as a two pack with hot mustard and some Diacon...really good starter. The chicken hearts were great with the left over unagi sauce and also the hot mustard and also the La-Yu sauce that was on the table. (We bought a couple bottles for home on our way out) Had a great time! The food came out really fast! Thanks everyone! It was great!

My son and I are visiting from the Bay Area, and eat ramen as much as possible. Haru's Kuro Ramen is up there with the best of them! I chose spicy level 3, which was perfect for me. We also ordered grilled rib-eye, bacon-scallop, and takoyaki. The rib-eye was just so-so, but the other two were excellent! I loved the smokey flavor of the grille on the scallop. I'd come back again next time I visit Reno.
