Really cool location. The Island in the Sun Cocktail was dangerously good. The oysters I got were great. Small, but tasty and fresh and not overly expensive for an inland restaurant. I also got the double cheeseburger, very good burger. Good experience overall
The previous time in Madison, we couldn't dine here as we didn't have a reservation and they were full. Therefore, we ensured to make a reservation this time. We walked in and were greeted in a friendly manner by the hostess. As we were a bit early for our reserved time, we decided to have a drink at the bar. Jay-Z (spelling?) was fantastic. He acknowledged us right away and gave us time to decide on our cocktails. He addressed us by our names and certainly set the tone for the rest of the evening. we didn't feel the same level of friendliness from the waitress but she was average. The food was delicious but we felt the menu was a bit limited. However, we enjoyed the total experience. The ambience of the restaurant is great with a view of the Capitol Building. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations are recommended especially during the weekend.
We went there specifically for the gluten free selections, asked the host about them before our table was ready to confirm. He assured us almost the whole menu was gluten free or could be made so including bread. When we Sar down to order most of the items were in fact NOT gluten free and couldn't NOT be made so. Very disappointed. Also disappointed that the plates were supposed to be shared but portions were so incredibly small. Great server though. Great atmosphere.
