Funky Fries and Burgers

Rated this location before, haven't been here in several years. Place and staff seem a lot more "tired" than I remember. Doesn't have the energy it used to. Food is still fantastic, got a BBQ bacon burger and tots, side of cajun fries. Still as good as I remember. Gave service three stars because we barely interacted with them (self order and pay now), and they were mostly in the back cracking jokes and talking to each other. Most of the vacant tables were dirty and unserviced. You guys had a great thing going, step it up again!

Great burgers, great tater tots, an incredible selection of burgers, fries, tots, real ice cream shakes, and more. The staff are friendly, the store is clean, the electric interface they use to have you order allows you to customize your burger or other items, with great detail, and they work fast to get your food to you. It arrives hot and good. In addition to craft sodas, all of the wild shake options, Funky also has at least 10 craft beers on tap, and even a bit of a bar to sit at if you choose to. Parking can be a bit limited, but the drive-thru moves pretty quickly also. They've got a sign outside indicating Funky was voted best burger in one of the Reader polls, and it's easy to see why. Now, this is one of the burger joints that lists the Los Angeles-heritaged Pastrami Burger on their standard menu. Burgers were pretty funky alright. I wouldn't recommend this place. Unless you like dry old patties. If this is the best burger in San Diego, then San Diego has a big problem.
