El Potro Restaurant

We have been to many Tex-Mex restaurants. We lived in OKC for over 20 years and came to STL a little over a year ago from the western Arkansas town of Fort Smith, where there are lots of Tex-Mex restaurants. We've tried several in STL and have found a couple that we liked enough to go back to often. However, we think that El Potro is probably our new go-to place. Lots of things we liked; service, cleanliness, noise level and, above all, the quality and quantity of food. My husband got chicken fajitas and I got a chimichanga asada. The fajitas are made with red, green and yellow bell peppers which make for a very colorful presentation. The refried beans were very well seasoned and everything on the plate was extremely fresh. My chimichanga was slightly crispy and very full of beef. The only two negatives from our first visit was the fact they had no iced tea and the parking lot is very tight. But these are definitely not things that will keep us from coming back.

El Potro is less than five minutes from my mom’s house, so we thought we’d give it a try one day last month. We loved it and have been going back there ever since! The staff always greet me warmly and make me feel like family. I have only done to-go orders, and they’ve always been correct and HOT! The portion sizes are great and the food tastes great! I love how they actually put a great amount of meat in the fajitas, when most Mexican restaurants skimp you. But, the main reason I return (besides the food) is because of how much you can tell that they care about their customers. The food has been ready in 15 minutes every time I order except once. That one time they were super apologetic, had it to me just five minutes late, AND while I waited they poured me a free glass of horchata! You could tell they really valued that their customers have a good experience in their restaurant. Always happy to recommend El Potro!
