El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant - Lakeland

Food is good, but the service has been getting worse with each visit. Went for dinner tonight, service was slow but the food was good. The real problem happened when I was ready to pay the check. I checked the amount, gave my debit card to the cashier, and was presented with a ticket to sign that was higher than my check. It showed an additional tax of $1.06 added afterwards. I questioned the cashier about it and was told that it was a surcharge for using a card. There was no notification on the table, menu, or at the entrance disclosing the extra charge. I won't be going back. I wonder if the state tax people know that they are using the guise of a tax to collect extra charges..............

Pretty good food but relatively inattentive staff. I was seated pretty quickly as the restaurant was mostly empty when I ate there. The server was quick to bring my water and chips and salsa but I waited a solid 15 minutes or so to place my order. I had the Mezcal Quesadilla, which was pretty good and the portion size was good. I had to wait a while to get drink refills and a while for the check. Other than the wait I have no real complaints. Parking: Shares a parking lot with the Kroger and a few other strip mall type businesses.

Noticeable Shortcuts. We stopped in around 7ish. We were seatedt immediately.. Way in the back. Chips were hard possiblely old. The Margarita I purchased had absolutely no Alcohol in it. They got over on me in that aspect. It took too long to receive out plates. My Shrimp Quesadillas were soggy. I asked for a reheat/cook. They were returned 5mins later with no Extra cook or heat on them. I guess they sat on plate overlooked in the back. My advice. Dont stop here. Go up the street a little to any other Mexican Restaurant.
