If you can only go to one place in Baton Rouge, go to Dempsey’s. They were short staffed when we went but the hustle of our server was amazing. We had two tables of 5 and 6, 11 people in all, and she made sure both were well taken care of. She never got frustrated or let us know if she was. The food was amazing. The fried green tomatoes were a bit harder in the middle than I like but the ranch and remoulade were amazing. We also got the messy cheese fries and the jalapeños were fresh and blazing. Perfecto! I got the chicken and andouille gumbo and I enjoyed the dish. The spice was mild and, even at a 12 ounces, it was filling. Th only issue there was the roux was a bit light. The crawfish is the main reason we go to Dempseys and it was on point. The onion rings are the shoestring version and, when dipped in ranch, they are also delicious. The kids all got chicken fingers and fries, which honestly stand alone as some of the best. The one food issue was the lack of flavor on the hamburge
I'm rating this lower than I would like. The main reason is they overly salt their dishes. If you have any issues with high blood pressure, this isn't the place for you. Otherwise, it's good food with good prices and good service.
The poboys and boudin balls are great. Ranch, remaloude, and brown gravy (with brisket meat mmm) are all fresh and good. Fries are ok. I would pass on the gumbo. The service is typically fast and folks are friendly.
