Service is always great, drinks are great and the food is not that good. Our ribs were burnt and I should say something to the staff but every time we eat here the food is just not that good! This time the collard greens were awesome, the cornbread was killer. Last time we got the jambalaya it lacked flavor and I couldn't stand the collard greens. This place has great ambiance and a great patio and was totally dead on a Friday night. I wish the best for this place and its staff. Whats the story? The kitchen burnt out? Owners? Feel free to write me back, I'm sorry to write a half negative review. I really want you to succeed. I ate at a newish chain in Boise Idaho. (it's hard to tell its a chain.) It's packed every night. Menu items are different and interesting. It's called Tupelo Honey. I would support a restaurant intervention with all my might. (I dont like chains but I totally get why The Matador is busy all the time!) Do your servers love your food? Is the kitchen burnt out? Are t

Tastes like they need to clean their microwave. Our takeout order was missing a couple items, but was replaced with things we didn't order. One undersized catfish filet tasted ok. Country fried steak was stale. Mashers with chicken gravy was described as "dusty." It's hard to mess up mac&cheese, and they didn't. But c'mon, guys. Sweet tater fries were the only positive aspect of our meal, but there's much better places for just fries in Portland. This place was great a decade ago, but they've gone severely down hill.

Maybe I just ordered the wrong food. It's entirely possible that I picked the three things this restaurant has but isn't very good at making. I want to start with a positive, the mash potatoes are great. Glad I accidentally ordered a double portion of them. I will say tho that the chicken gravy is just pepper gravy with chicken pieces in it. Not bad, just that I wouldn't call it chicken gravy. Now for the semi good, the Corn Bread Muffins were bland. They tasted marginally better the deeper you got into them, but I understand why butter and honey was sent along with them. If these had been brought to my BBQ I would assume the person liked me well enough to bring something, but not so well as to bring me something particularly good. Edible, but not really good. Now for the bad. The images on the menu showed picture perfect chicken fried steak and Fried Okra. Two of my favorite foods, as a small town Texas girl. So you can only imagine how absolutely gutted I was when I got Okra that had
