I have been to the oceanfront (17th St) restaurant now a few times. Having lived in Puerto Rico, I can say it is difficult to find good, authentic PR food on the mainland. De Rican is true, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. From the cocktails (have the coconut mojito, trust me) to the appetizers (the sorullos are aweome) to main dishes (MONFONGO!!!), everything was delivered fresh and so tasty. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with all things PR and it truly gave me an at home feel. I recently relocated to Virginia Beach and De Rican is definitely going to be a regular spot for me to eat. Absolutely wonderful!
Love coming here for their Cuban sandwich. Very vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. I need to come back and try their more Puerto Rican cuisine. Definitely a nice Lil hidden gem in the shipps corner area of Virginia beach.
My fellow Veteran and I spent Memorial Day here and I’m so sorry that both the restaurants we planned to visit are closed on Mondays. We had a very nice waitress but the food and drinks were disappointing. We ordered the sampler and also a deep potato ball with ground beef inside. All the food was flavorless, fried way too hard and completely dried out. The same ground beef is in the empanadas as the potato roll and another another dish on the sampler. My girlfriend said she enjoyed the Pina Colada that she had before I arrived however, the Margarita Classico ( on the Happy Hour menu) was terrible and also had no alcohol. I may try this place because the couple next to us seem to enjoy the whole red snapper and another fish dish called Lubina.
