My wife and I have always loved Davenport’s. We were very excited to have this new location open a little closer to home. It has not disappointed! The pizza is just like the original location and we have really enjoyed the updated atmosphere.
The wait to sit is nothing, but you’ll be waiting over an hour for a 12” pizza for sure. Watched other tables be served ahead of us. The manager avoids guests. He spent the entire time in the kitchen alley watching. I’ve worked in service for over a decade in my life and never would a GM or manager stand by as hungry, upset guests walk out and to-go orders be cancelled when people show up to pick them up. Maybe they weren’t ready for the rush, but whatever the case may be we’ll keep our business with Troup’s in Cahaba Heights for sure.
Given the method they use to cook the pizzas, I expected it to take some time, but I wasn’t ready for fourty minutes (and $13) for a small. Definitely order ahead. The actual pizza (bacon and pineapple) was very inconsistent. One corner was excellent and tasted great with perfect texture. One corner I couldn’t bite into the crust it was so hard. The “bacon bits” were random sizes, and multiple times I had to pull sizable wads of inedible chewy fat out of my mouth. Of the 16 tiny square-cut pieces, I enjoyed about 2. This highly inconsistent and mostly negative experience leads me to not want to return. I tried to share the remainder of the pizza with my family and coworkers, and we still have a quarter of it left. In summary, if you go to Davenport’s, order plain, hard to mess up pizzas. Anything beyond pepperoni and cheese can be risky. Extra gripe: When I ordered the take-out, they forced me to give my phone number and join their rewards program to complete my order despite me saying
