The outside seating was amazing! My burger was very good but the chicken marsala my friend got was absolutely amazing! Food : 4/5 | Service : 4/5 | Atmosphere : 5/5 … More
City Tavern is an above average bar/restaurant located in the heart of downtown Culver City. The tap list is pretty good and the service is decent. My real issue with this place is that the several times I've visited, the food has just been average. Not good...not bad, just fine. With all the competition in the area for a good bite, this place isn't the first choice. But if you are looking for a drink and an app to go along with it, then you might consider giving it a try.
During COVID, a lot of the Culver City restaurants, including City Tavern, have made space for ample outdoor seating that is paired with cozy ambient lighting and heat lamps. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, no complaints there. The reason I give it 3 stars is because I felt like City Tavern was overpriced and the food was mediocre at best. We got the poutine as an appetizer, and it tasted like cheap meat was used. The poutine on the menu is supposed to have braised short rib...I don't know about you, but braised short rib is the type of meat that is moist, tender, and falls apart in your mouth due to the fact that it should be simmered in your choice of liquid for a relatively long time. City Tavern's meat was in tough, dry, cubic chunks. Definitely not braised short rib by any definition of the word. Very disappointing. Besides that, I got the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16). You can't really go wrong with that, so I don't have complaints there, except for the price
