Barbacoa soup had hardly any meat, found a bay leaf in it, broth was overly salty and hardly had any flavor. Came with super runny refried beans and corn tortillas (I would’ve preferred flour but wasn’t asked my preference). I also ordered a shredded chicken taco and when I opened the box it smelled like rotten eggs. My daughter asked if I had farted lol. Decided to take a bite and see if it tasted any better. Nope. Not really sure how this place has so many rave reviews. Waste of $18. Won’t be back.
I am from Mexico, and I know what real carnitas should taste like, well this place is as good as the ones from Mexicali in San Diego! Juicy porky goodness, crunchy tasty chicharrones and very good guacamole, rice, and beans. If you don’t like a heavy meal, get the carnitas tacos plate. Two very well served tacos with the works. If you like a good size meal get the Maggi burrito, carnitas and chicharrón, pico salsa and guacamole. And for dessert, order flan.
Still the old mom and pa feel. This is such an amazing family ran place. Great food. The Carnitas plate for only $7.50 is more then a steal. It makes about 4 or 5 tacos. They take cash or card so that's a plus. I would highly recommend going. I always feel completely full afterwards. It's located next to Dennys on Spring street in La Mesa. The workers are always very nice and helpful. I also really like the Chile Verde Burrito. Parking: The drive through is very tiny and only fits 2 cars before in the street so park and walk in is best.
