Carmo was incredible!!! The ambience was fun, the prices were reasonable, but the FOOD! Oh my goodness, words can’t express how delicious this food is. Authentic South American cuisine is hard to come by and this absolutely hit the mark. I didn’t try their infamous raw bar but the sweet potato quinoa fritters and the “Rico” plate were to die for. We also had INCREDIBLE service from Cherry. If I ever come back to NOLA this is a place I’d absolutely return to!!!!!

Carmo is probably the best vegetarian option in NOLA. Each dish can be made vegetarian, and in many cases even vegan. They take lots of influence from South America so you'll find plays on Amazonian, Peruvian, or Brazilian ingredients. There's even a taster course by night featuring Amazonian dishes. Outside their specialty, even the classics like the red beans and rice here are delicious. They do a great job of offering the city something new while also keeping familiar favorites. Vegetarian options: Tons of options, pretty much every dish can be made vegetarian and vegan in many cases Parking: Street parking only

After a long day of traveling from California, we wanted an early dinner that wasn’t too heavy and had vegan options. We got to Carmo at 5:45PM and were seated immediately by a very friendly host. The ambiance makes you feel like you are somewhere tropical with a simple, no frills vibe. Now let’s get to the food… We ordered the smoked fish fritters, sweet potato fritters, Vegan Rico, Daily Rice & Beans with Sausage, and Regular Rico. The fritters came out piping hot with a great crunch but soft middle. The sweet potato fritters were a bit bland, but the aioli helped to give it flavor. The smoked fish fritters were more flavorful, but still lacked the kick I was looking for. Enter the super flavor hot sauce on the table…perfection! The Ricos were tasty and came with a side salad. The portions were a bit small but was perfect since we ordered the fritters. Again, add the hot sauce! Since we didn’t feel stuffed, we ordered dessert - Chocolate Almond Torte & Basque Cheesecake.
