Burma Bistro is a cozy little mom-and-pop shop, tucked away in an unassuming Santa Clara strip mall. Their menu is pretty expansive, but if it’s your first time, the staff is excellent about recommending a few “National Dishes” to try out, and they don’t disappoint. For starters, we had the Palata and Dip, which is like Indian naan or Chinese scallion pancakes. It’s crispy, flaky, chewy, and savory. The dip tasted strangely like corn chowder, but was in fact a chicken curry. And it was freaking delicious. I’m happy to report that after a few bites, I told everyone else in the table that I wouldn’t be sharing. Of course at a Burmese place, you’ll have to try the Tea Leaf Salad. Tea Leaf Salad is awesomely nutty, funky, and refreshing. Translating it to the American palate, it’s most similar to a kind of slaw, but it’s much more savory and flavorful and stands well on its own. Another great dish is the Moh Hin Ga, which is like a vermicelli noodle soup. I probably couldn’t even count the
Burmese bistro simply was an eye-opener to authentic Burmese cuisine. The presentation was stunning, the flavors packed a punch, and more importantly, it was truly authentic. It completely redefined my knowledge of Burmese cuisine and I'm very happy that I went there. Never underestimate smaller diners, they're sure to surprise you!!
This place was excellent!! We ordered the garlic eggplant dish (the eggplant was not over cooked or soggy), the beef tendon soup (broth was hearty but not too rich, pieces of beef were so tender and the tendon was perfectly bouncy), the tea leaf salad (wonderful combination of crunchy textures and balanced flavor), and the samosas (very fresh and came with a nice sweet and sour chili sauce). Service was quick and the woman waiting us was very kind and easy to communicate with. She seemed very happy to have guests that like tendons lol. I recommend this place 100%!
