Alma Bistro, Cocina Latina

Let’s put this right up front – “Alma Bistro”, in Norwalk Connecticut, may be the best restaurant of any kind in the tri-state area. Including NYC. It certainly elevates Mexican cuisine to a Nuevo-Latino height that I have not experienced anywhere before. We’ve become accustomed to heading into NYC for top-tier dining. Yesterday we aimed north to Alma, which had been recommended to us. We expected good execution of some staples we’ve come to expect in Latino restaurants – the Three Ts (tacos, tamales and tostones) and some salsa and chips. We had no idea we were about to be blown away by some of the finest food we’ve ever been served. We should have had an inkling of what was to come as soon as we walked in. The space is bright, clean and modern, with a post-industrial feel. The music (played at a level that makes conversation easy) mixed Latino standards with newer jazz-inflected tunes. What an awesome spot. The Pollo Cha-Chacha was one of my favorite dishes I’ve had. Everything we had was absolutely amazing and the service was excellent as well. Alma is the sweetest. Will absolutely be back.

Great new spot on Wall Street! So glad to see the area getting some excellent spots around the theater. The decor, food. and drinks were great, service attentive, and the owner, Alma, was lovely! Support this new place!
